I figure I should do this list before people stop caring. Or start caring again. Hmm. In any case, here is the list of books/graphic novels I read in 2008, and once again, starred and bolded are my favorites.
- The Lovely Bones – Alice Sebold
- Naked – David Sedaris
- Assassination Vacation – Sarah Vowell
- Player Piano – Kurt Vonnegut
- Shortcomings – Adrian Tomine
- Y: The Last Man – Brian K. Vaughn
- Astonishing X-Men – Joss Whedon
- Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone – J.K. Rowling
- Safe Area Gorazde – Joe Sacco
- The Umbrella Chronicles – Gerard Way
- Superman: Red Son – Mark Millar
- White Noise – Don Delillo
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets – J.K. Rowling
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – J.K. Rowling
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – J.K. Rowling*
I wasn’t too fond of most of the books I read last year. In fact, most of them were unmemorable. Superman: Red Son deals with the what-if of Superman’s spaceship landing in Russia instead of the US. Highly recommended read and one of the better graphic novels I’ve read recently.
Goblet of Fire I enjoyed because Rowling finally gets darker, and I just finished book five which I thought was even better. I’m not sure why so many people liked book three, although I sort of knew what the twist at the end was already, so that could be a reason why.
