Unsolicited commentary and thoughts

I saw Up in all its glorious digital 3D wonder at the midnight screening, and loved it so much that I saw it again 14 hours later at a matinĂ©e showing. It had a great story that almost had my eyes tearing up at a lot of parts. Pixar films always seem to do that to me, and I’m not sure what it is that does that to me, pulling at my emotions and making me feel like Erica instead of Eric. Nevertheless it works, and they do so without making it sappy.

Lots of funny too. A couple of parts in particular had me laughing so hard the first time that I missed all the dialogue that followed afterwards. The movie as a whole felt very complete and I’m finding it hard to nitpick at it or point out anything that I would have done differently.

Is it my favorite Pixar film so far? That’s a tough one to call. Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille have always been my favorites, and it’s been a while since I’ve seen any of them. I think the best part is that Up felt even less like a children’s movie than any of the previous Pixar films.
