Item No. 149

Inspired by John Hicks’ fluid design for his website, I set about implementing the same techniques for my own wonderful site. Go ahead, shrink your browser window. Look at it cunningly switch to two columns, and then a single column. Now make the browser bigger and watch it go back. Oh yeah, you like that.

The main pitfall I came across was that my initial design/html did not accommodate for this, so you’ll notice the content isn’t exactly in the right spot in the smaller layouts. But hey, at least the site is still functional. If you view in the iPhone now you’ll get the single column view, while the iPad defaults to the double columns.

It was nice being able to make mobile/iPad optimized versions of my site in about an hour though.

About

Eric Lim works as a front-end developer in Orange County, California and spends his time squandering his potential.

In his spare time he surfs the internets, pirates music and movies, pets strange kitties, and makes a big mess when he eats. He also tends to say things that make no sense because he doesn't really listen to himself when he talks.
